Sheikh Ausi Urges Muslims to Prioritise Zakah During Salam TV Jumah Prayers in Mbale

What the report says
Sheikh Abubakar Ausi has called on Muslims to give Zakah greater priority, saying that failing to pay the obligatory alms when one is eligible can carry serious spiritual consequences. His remarks were delivered during special Jumah prayers at Masjid Raudha in Mbale City, where the Salam TV team was holding prayers as part of its Omumanyi wa Salam TV 7th Edition mobilisation drive.
According to Nile Post, Sheikh Ausi used the sermon to stress that Zakah is one of Islam’s pillars and should be taught with the same emphasis as prayer, fasting and pilgrimage. He said some believers may observe other duties but still neglect Zakah, which he described as a matter of accountability before Allah. He also argued that wealth can be a trust, creating a responsibility for those with means to support others through Zakah.
The sermon placed the issue in a broader religious and community context, with the Sheikh urging Muslim leaders to widen awareness so more eligible believers understand and fulfil the obligation. The report also noted that Salam TV was in Mbale City for outreach related to its annual mobilisation campaign. In general Islamic teaching, Zakah is a form of charitable giving linked to wealth and social welfare, and it is often discussed alongside the other core acts of worship.
