Equity Bank, Tian Tang Group team up to bankroll Mbale’s factory floor

What the report says
Equity Bank Uganda and Tian Tang Group have announced a partnership intended to make credit easier to access for businesses operating in the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park. According to The Observer, the park hosts more than 2,000 businesses and employs roughly 15,000 Ugandans, making the financing deal relevant to a significant manufacturing cluster in eastern Uganda.
Under the arrangement, Equity Bank said it will provide working capital, business loans and corporate banking services to help manufacturers expand production, purchase machinery and cover day-to-day operating costs. The bank also plans to support park-based firms with training in cash-flow management, bookkeeping and corporate governance, which can improve lenders’ confidence in a borrower’s records and repayment prospects. The reported aim is to strengthen businesses inside the park while improving their ability to qualify for formal financing.
The Observer said the partnership could have wider effects beyond the industrial park itself, including more business for transporters, suppliers, traders and nearby construction and food enterprises. Tian Tang Group described the move as a way to support enterprise development and economic transformation, while Equity Bank framed it as part of its broader role in Uganda’s industrialisation agenda and local development.
For Mbale and surrounding communities, the practical significance will depend on whether the financing reaches firms that can turn it into higher output, stronger supply chains and more stable jobs.
