Gunn, 30, had joined San Jose after leaving Nottingham Forest, and the match was his first club outing since appearing as a substitute in Forest’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Crystal Palace in February.

According to the BBC, the scoreline was harsh on Gunn personally, with the goalkeeper not chiefly at fault for the goals and making saves that kept the loss from becoming heavier. Orlando extended the lead shortly after half-time through Antoine Griezmann, who scored on his debut after moving from Atletico Madrid. Braian Ojeda added the fourth in the 73rd minute, heading in from another Atuesta set piece. At the other end, Orlando goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau denied San Jose several times, including chances for Germany striker Timo Werner on his debut following his move from RB Leipzig.

The result did not knock San Jose out of contention near the top of the Western Conference: the BBC said they remain level on points at the summit but trail Vancouver Whitecaps on goal difference, with Vancouver holding a game in hand. San Jose’s next scheduled match is at home to LA Galaxy on Sunday.
