Rugumayo breaks Entebbe course record to win MTN pro tee

Ronald Rugumayo won the second leg of the MTN Pro Tee series at Entebbe Club after setting a new course record, according to The Independent Uganda. He finished the 72-hole event at 16-under-par 268, with a standout third round of 63 and a closing 64 helping him secure a comfortable victory in Entebbe, Uganda.

The report said Abraham Ainamani, who won the opening MTN Pro Tee leg in June, placed second on 275, while Rodell Gaita finished third. Grace Kasango and Silver Opio rounded out the top five. The tournament drew 40 professional golfers, six amateurs and two female professionals, and featured a Shs20 million prize purse.

The MTN Pro Tee series was launched this year with the Uganda Professional Golfers Association to give professionals more regular competition and support talent development. MTN Uganda said the broader golf programme is intended to create opportunities for players to compete and grow. The series awards performance points toward an Order of Merit, which will help determine qualification for a December Grand Finale with a Shs30 million purse.

The Independent also noted that MTN supports amateur golf through its Quarterly Tee events, which bring together corporate and recreational players. Rugumayo’s win adds to his recent local success and highlights the role of structured sponsorship in Uganda’s golf scene.
