Rubanda Holds Free Medical Camp Ahead of Kigezi Health Review Mission

What the report says
Rubanda District has launched a two-day free medical camp at its headquarters as part of preparations to host the 4th Annual Kigezi Regional Health Sector Joint Performance Review Mission. According to Nile Post, the outreach is aimed at serving about 1,500 to 2,000 rural residents while also helping officials spot gaps in local healthcare delivery.
The camp is being run with support from Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and the Joint Clinical Research Centre. Health officials said 40 trained workers were deployed to offer consultations, testing, treatment, medicines and a range of services, including cancer, diabetes and hypertension screening, HIV and tuberculosis testing, dental care, family planning, circumcision and paediatric care. The event was opened by Rubanda Resident District Commissioner Kyeeyune Senyojo and Assistant RDC Bindeeba Hillary.
District leaders used the occasion to urge residents to seek regular check-ups and avoid self-medication. They also said the exercise would help identify challenges in health service delivery, especially in rural communities. Residents raised concerns about drug stock-outs, absenteeism and misconduct by some health workers, while district officials said such feedback would inform responses and future community barazas.
The broader review mission is expected to bring together health leaders from across the Kigezi sub-region to assess performance and compare district progress. Background provided in the report notes that Rubanda was created in 2016 from the former Kabale District, and officials said the district has continued expanding its health facilities and services.
