Two injured in Rubanda crash as police blame speeding

Police in Uganda’s Rubanda District are investigating a road crash that left two men injured on Tuesday evening along the Kabale-Kisoro Road. According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime, the collision happened at Nyamasisi Junction at about 6pm and involved a Toyota Corolla and a HOWO Sino truck traveling from the Kisoro direction.

The injured men, whose identities were not immediately released, were taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital by traffic police and emergency responders. Nile Post reported that the Toyota Corolla crossed into the truck’s path and hit it head-on. The truck’s registration number was given as UA 099DX, while the Corolla carried registration number UBA 630X.

Police said early findings point to excessive speeding as the likely cause of the crash. Tumushime urged motorists to follow traffic rules, respect speed limits and keep vehicles roadworthy. He also advised drivers to avoid fatigue while on the road. The condition of the two victims had not been confirmed by the time of reporting.

The case adds to broader road safety concerns in Uganda, where police often cite speeding and lane discipline as recurring factors in serious crashes. The report did not indicate whether any charges had been filed or whether the vehicles had been cleared from the scene.
