Rotary medical camp proves timely for Kyengera community

What the report says
The Observer reports that a free medical camp organized by the Rotary Club of Kampala Central drew 321 patients to Mother of Mercy Hospital in Kyengera. The event was described as a welcome intervention for local residents, many of whom reportedly struggle to pay for treatment and medicine. The camp was held recently, with the article noting that some people arrived after the scheduled time, but organizers still considered it successful.
According to Sister Maria Namuwulya, who heads Mother of Mercy Hospital, the goal had been to serve at least 400 people. The camp offered a range of services through dentists, gynecologists, opticians, general practitioners and laboratory technicians. The report says 192 patients later collected free medicines from the hospital pharmacy, and that many attendees had been ill for some time but had delayed care because of cost.
Duncan Aturinda, president of the Rotary Club of Kampala Central, said the club’s health work is part of its broader service mission. He linked public health to economic well-being and said the club also supports environmental conservation efforts, including work related to Lake Victoria, the River Nile and forests. The article frames the camp as part of wider concerns about access to affordable healthcare in Uganda.
