Hoops Rumors, citing ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk, reported that Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul offered new detail on LeBron James’ free-agency process after James chose to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. Paul said on his “Game Over” podcast with Max Kellerman that James did not settle on Philadelphia until 1 a.m. ET on Friday and had repeatedly shifted between options before making the call.

According to the report, James’ final group consisted of the Sixers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors. Paul described the decision as emotionally difficult because of James’ ties to Cleveland and Miami, while also noting the appeal of joining Stephen Curry and Draymond Green in Golden State. The Minnesota Timberwolves, who had been viewed as a possible contender for James, were considered earlier but did not make his final four, Paul said.

Paul indicated that Philadelphia’s case strengthened after the Sixers acquired Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics in a trade announced July 1. He said that move changed how James viewed the roster and made the Sixers look more like a serious Eastern Conference contender. Paul also pointed to James’ relationship with Tyrese Maxey, another Klutch client, as a factor that could ease James’ transition; the two have trained together in recent offseasons.

The development matters because James’ move reshapes expectations around a Philadelphia team already featuring major talent, including Brown, Maxey and Joel Embiid.
