Prospective Gateshead takeover close to collapse

What the report says
The takeover of National League club Gateshead is in serious doubt after prospective buyer Flacks Group said third-party involvement has put the deal at risk. In a public letter reported by BBC Sport, the American investment group said it had been told another party, Shoreline Limited, had previously agreed to buy the club from the current owners and later filed court papers saying that agreement was void. Flacks Group said it had sought written confirmation that Shoreline had no remaining claim to the club, but that Shoreline had not replied.
According to the report, the takeover had appeared close to completion earlier this month, pending approval from the Independent Football Regulator. Flacks Group now says it may have to withdraw because it cannot move forward while ownership questions remain unresolved. The group also said the uncertainty is complicated by Shoreline’s reported interest in buying another English Football League club, with football regulations generally limiting an owner to control of more than one English club.
The development adds to a difficult period for Gateshead on and off the pitch. The club is bottom of the National League and has struggled for results this season. BBC Sport also reported that the side remains without a manager after Lee Cattermole’s departure earlier in the month, and that wages for players and staff were paid late for September. The situation matters because a failed takeover could leave the club facing further uncertainty at a time of sporting and financial pressure.
