President Ruto, Alupo attend consecration of Rt Vitalis Ekuru as fourth Bishop of Katakwa Diocese

Nile Post reported that Kenya’s President William Ruto and Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo attended the consecration and enthronement of Rt. Rev. Dr. Vitalis Job Ekuru as the fourth Anglican Bishop of Katakwa Diocese. The Sunday ceremony took place in Busia County, Kenya, and brought together senior Anglican clergy, state officials and cultural leaders from both Kenya and Uganda.

According to the report, the service was led by Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit of the Anglican Church of Kenya. Bishop Ekuru takes over from Rt. Rev. John Ekude, who stepped down after reaching the church’s mandatory retirement age of 65. The Anglican rite included prayers, examination of faith, laying on of hands, anointing, and the presentation of episcopal symbols, including a Bible, ring and pastoral staff.

Nile Post said Archbishop Ole Sapit called on the new bishop to practise servant leadership, protect church teaching, foster unity and remain close to the faithful. President Ruto congratulated Bishop Ekuru and said his government would continue working with the church in service delivery. Vice President Alupo conveyed a message from President Yoweri Museveni and praised faith-based institutions for their role in areas including education, health, wealth creation and moral formation.

The report described Bishop Ekuru as an experienced cleric and academic with a PhD and more than two decades in ministry, education and administration. He has served as Chairperson of the Diocesan House of Clergy, Archdeacon of Chamasiri Archdeaconry, and an adjunct lecturer at St. Paul’s University and Carlile College’s Katakwa satellite campus.
