What the report says

Police Savings Association Limited (PSAL) has been encouraged to broaden its support for police officers’ financial welfare by promoting a stronger savings habit, cautious borrowing and investment plans that can sustain the association over time. The appeal was made in Kampala during PSAL’s 6th Annual General Meeting at Sharing Youth Hall in Nsambya, where senior police official SCP Timothy Halango presided as chief guest on behalf of Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba.

According to Watchdog Uganda, Halango praised PSAL for helping officers access affordable credit, but said the changing demands of policing mean the association should do more than provide loans. He urged members across all ranks to save consistently, manage money prudently and understand that their pooled contributions are what give the group its lending capacity and potential for dividends.

The meeting also reviewed the association’s progress and discussed ways to strengthen its ability to meet members’ needs. Halango said a larger savings base would improve PSAL’s financial sustainability and help it better protect the interests of police personnel. He also called for the association to be treated as a strategic partner in officer welfare and financial empowerment.

In leadership news, SCP Christine Nanding was re-elected as PSAL chairperson. Her return was presented as a vote of confidence from members and a sign of continuity as the association works to expand savings, access to credit and long-term financial support for police officers.
