Police attacked with fireworks and bottles ahead of cup semi-final

What the report says
Police Scotland said officers were attacked with fireworks, glass bottles and other objects before the Rangers v Aberdeen Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Saturday. According to the BBC Sport report, the disorder took place on Curtis Avenue ahead of the match and several officers were assaulted in what police described as a targeted incident. Two supporters were also injured, although neither needed medical treatment.
The force also said a man was arrested in a separate incident outside the stadium in connection with an assault. Supt Paul Douglas condemned the violence and said those responsible would be identified and arrested. He said inquiries were continuing and that police would work with both clubs. The report notes that police urged fans to take responsibility for their behaviour and asked anyone with information to come forward.
The BBC also reported further incidents during the second semi-final between Hearts and Hibernian on Sunday. Police said several arrests and charges were made for alleged threatening and abusive behaviour, possession of pyrotechnics and vandalism, with some people to appear in court later and others to be reported to prosecutors. Rangers won the first semi-final 1-0, and Hibs later beat Hearts 2-1 to set up the final.
