Police Arrest Four After Human Remains Found in Mukono Home

Police in Mukono District have arrested four people after officers searching for a missing motorcycle said they found human skulls and bones inside a home in Wantayi Village, Namataba Town Council. The case, reported by Nile Post, centres on a property linked to Ruth Nabasiruka, 60, her daughter Esther Nababi, 35, and two others whose names have not yet been released. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the remains were discovered unexpectedly during the recovery operation, and that investigators are still working to establish what happened.

According to the report, police also recovered items including shrines, old bark cloths and two new mattresses from the compound. Residents gathered at the scene and pointed officers to several graves, some said to have visible holes or fresh cement over them, though those claims had not been independently confirmed by police at the time. The local village chairperson said complaints about activities at the property had been raised before the discovery and that a community meeting was being planned.

Nabasiruka told police she had exhumed and kept the remains for traditional Kiganda healing practices intended to help her children, while denying any intent to harm others. A family member, Charles Male, accused her of practising witchcraft and said relatives had been driven from the family home. Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances around the remains and whether any offences were committed. The case has drawn attention because it involves possible unlawful handling of human remains and longstanding concerns from residents about the property.
