Police Arrest 11 in Lira City West Crime Crackdown

Police in Lira City West Division have arrested 11 people in an intelligence-led operation aimed at suspected offenders linked to a series of crimes in the area, according to Dokolo Post. The arrests were made during a night operation carried out between midnight and 5 a.m. on September 15, 2026, in Kakoge A, Kakoge B, Kakoge C and Jinja Camp.

North Kyoga regional police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said the action followed concerns raised by residents during community policing meetings with the Division Police Commander and other officers. The complaints reported by community members included burglary, housebreaking, theft, simple robbery and phone snatching. Police named the suspects and said they are being held at Lira City West Division as investigators prepare case files for review by the Regional Criminal and Security Analysis unit for guidance.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to respond to crime in the affected neighborhoods. Police also used the occasion to encourage residents to keep sharing information with security agencies and to work closely with officers in reporting suspicious activity. More broadly, such community-policing driven crackdowns are a common approach in Uganda and elsewhere when police respond to localized crime concerns, especially where residents report recurring theft-related offences.
