PFF Hits Back at Security Deployment, Vows to Continue Besigye, Lukwago Bail Campaign

The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has said it will continue its campaign over the denial of medical bail to Dr Kizza Besigye and lawyer Erias Lukwago, despite what it described as a heavy security deployment outside its Katonga Road offices in Kampala. According to Nile Post, police cordoned off the area on Monday morning, preventing a planned peaceful procession to the Chief Justice’s office.

The party said the demonstration was intended to submit a petition on the bail issue, but security presence stopped it before it could begin. PFF also accused security personnel of arresting one of its activists, Maddo Isaac, during the attempted procession and said he was forcefully bundled into a vehicle after trying to cross the police line.

In a statement shared by the party and attributed to Deputy Secretary General Kennedy Okello, PFF described the operation as an abuse of power and said it had already notified the Inspector General of Police a week earlier, asking for coordination rather than a shutdown. The party said the response amounted to intimidation, but insisted it would not be deterred.

The dispute comes amid broader opposition criticism of bail conditions and the role of state security in managing political activity. Based on the report, PFF leaders said their legal and executive teams were meeting to decide their next steps.
