What the report says

Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba has promised extra police personnel and equipment for Kayabwe Town Council in Mpigi District after a security meeting with residents, local leaders and political leaders. According to Nile Post, the discussion was held in response to community concerns about safety and was convened after an invitation from Minister of State for Tourism and area MP Suzan Nakawuki.

The police chief said the planned support would include more officers, motorcycles, communication equipment and a K9 unit. He also handed over a Land Cruiser pickup to help police respond more quickly to incidents in the area. The measures are meant to improve crime prevention, increase police visibility and strengthen operations at sub-county level.

Byakagaba urged the public to work closely with police by reporting suspicious activity and supporting the Sub-county Policing Model. He said community participation is important for tackling crime and improving service delivery. The meeting is part of wider police outreach to local communities as authorities look for practical responses to security challenges.

The pledge matters because Kayabwe is a busy area in Mpigi District, and stronger police resources could affect nearby communities as well. Separately, general policing reforms in Uganda have often emphasized community policing and local engagement, though the specific deployment details in this case were limited to the commitments reported by Nile Post.
