Patriots place rookie Gabe Jacas on NFI, receiver on injured reserve - Boston Herald

What the report says
The Boston Herald reported that New England Patriots rookie outside linebacker Gabe Jacas signed his rookie contract Sunday and was immediately placed on the active/non-football injury list. Jacas, a 2026 second-round pick, had been the last player selected in this year’s NFL Draft who had not yet signed, according to the Herald’s account published July 26, 2026.
The move does not necessarily signal a long absence: the Herald noted Jacas can be removed from the active/NFI list at any point. The paper also reported that Jacas had a knee procedure during the offseason. In general NFL roster terms, active/NFI is used for players dealing with conditions or injuries not classified as occurring during team football activities, while still allowing them to occupy a roster spot during camp.
New England also placed wide receiver Jeremiah Webb on injured reserve, which created space on the 90-man roster. The Herald listed Jacas alongside running back Terrell Jennings and safety Brenden Schooler on NFI, while outside linebacker Harold Landry III and tight end CJ Dippre are on the physically unable to perform list. The report said those players can also be activated at any time.
Webb joins wide receiver Jimmy Kibble and tight end Julian Hill on injured reserve, according to the Herald. The transactions matter because they shape the Patriots’ early training-camp roster and clarify the short-term status of several players as the team evaluates depth before later roster cuts.
