Passengers Lose Luggage in Trinity Bus Fire in Kigali

What the report says
A Trinity Express bus traveling from Uganda to Rwanda caught fire on Monday evening near Nyacyonga on the northern outskirts of Kigali, according to Nile Post. The blaze destroyed the vehicle and passengers’ luggage, but all passengers reportedly got off safely before the bus was fully engulfed. No deaths or injuries had been reported at the time of publication.
The article says images from the scene showed heavy smoke and the bus burning as travelers watched their belongings go up in flames. The cause of the fire was not yet known, and neither Trinity Express nor Kigali police had issued an explanation by the time the report was published. The incident has renewed concern about the regional operator’s fleet and safety standards.
Nile Post also noted that reports of a similar fire involving a Trinity bus earlier this year had circulated, including a account from a passenger who described a frightening experience near the Rwanda-Uganda border. In that earlier case, travelers were reportedly forced to leave the bus and continue on foot after fire broke out underneath the vehicle. The latest incident adds pressure on the company and authorities to clarify what happened and whether there are broader maintenance or safety issues.
Trinity Express is a regional cross-border bus company operating routes linking Rwanda, Uganda and other East African destinations. For passengers, the main immediate loss in this case was personal luggage, even as they escaped physical harm.
