Al Jazeera reported on Sept. 15, 2026 that a group of Western governments, including the UK, France and Canada, had announced plans to introduce, support or consider restrictions on Israeli settlement goods, setting off a sharp diplomatic response from Israel. According to the report, Israel gave the UK 30 days to close its consulate in occupied East Jerusalem and also took other retaliatory steps, including ending British training support for Palestinian Authority security forces and removing British staff from a Gaza coordination centre.

The article said the sanctions dispute unfolded alongside continued violence and worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza. It described repeated Israeli airstrikes and other attacks over the week, as well as mounting strain on hospitals and transport services because of shortages of fuel, spare parts and oil. A B’Tselem report framed Israeli policy as a broader project of “elimination” of Palestinians, while other groups said land seizures, settler violence and movement restrictions amounted to de facto annexation. Al Jazeera said recent incidents in places including Jenin, Ramallah, Beit Jala, Hebron and nearby areas illustrated the pattern of settler and military violence described in those reports.
