Pakistan have been penalized by the International Cricket Council for a slow over rate during the third Test against England in Birmingham, which was played at Edgbaston last week. According to Al Jazeera’s report, the team was found to be 11 overs short of the required rate, leading to an 11-point deduction in the World Test Championship and a fine of 50 percent of the players’ match fees.

The sanction was imposed by match referee Ranjan Madugalle after the on-field and television officials levelled the charge. The points loss leaves Pakistan at the bottom of the World Test Championship standings with five points from nine matches. England won the Test by eight wickets to complete a 3-0 series sweep.

The report says this was part of a difficult tour for Pakistan, who had already lost the first two Tests heavily. It also notes wider disruption to the squad during the series, including player changes and the departures of the head coach and assistant coach. Pakistan’s next Tests are scheduled at home against Sri Lanka in November.
