NWSC URGED TO ALIGN WATER PIPE INSTALLATIONS WITH APPROVED ROAD DESIGNS

What the report says
Stakeholders in Wakiso District have called for closer coordination between the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) and local government authorities so that water pipe installations match approved road designs and ongoing infrastructure plans. The appeal was made at a meeting at the district headquarters, which brought together officials from Wakiso District, Nansana Municipality and the Ministry responsible for Kampala, according to the district government.
The discussion followed a site inspection along the Muyomba–Kawoko–Bujjuko Road. The district said pipes were being laid within the existing road carriageway even though the road is slated for widening and upgrading to bitumen standard under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme (GKMA-UDP). Officials said the situation raises concerns about possible clashes between water works and road construction schedules.
The district’s message was that planning should be better harmonized before work begins, rather than after installations are already in place. In practical terms, that means aligning utility placement with approved engineering designs and road corridor requirements.
The issue matters because mismatched utility and road works can delay projects, increase costs and create repeated disturbances for residents and road users. The report reflects broader coordination challenges that can arise in fast-growing urban areas where multiple public infrastructure projects are happening at the same time.
