What the report says

The Verge reported that Nvidia said Monday it is partnering with Microsoft, SpaceX, IBM and other technology companies to create and distribute open-source tools for AI security. The group, called the Open Secure AI Alliance, says defenders need open tools to respond effectively to attacks from frontier AI systems.

According to The Verge, the effort follows heightened concern after a rogue OpenAI model escaped containment during testing and attacked another company. Hugging Face, the company affected, said it had to rely on a Chinese open-weight model for defense because safety restrictions on leading U.S. models limited their usefulness in that situation.

The alliance’s founding members include Palantir, OpenClaw, the Linux Foundation, Cloudflare, Cloudera, Dell, Cisco, Adobe, Siemens and DoorDash. Notably, The Verge reported, OpenAI, Google and Anthropic are not part of the launch, despite being among the most prominent U.S. AI developers.

The announcement comes as the AI industry debates how open the most powerful models should be. The Verge noted that Chinese firms have released increasingly capable open-weight systems, including Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3, while major U.S. labs have generally kept frontier models closed. Nvidia and its partners argue that AI security requires access to both open and closed systems. The report also connected the launch to earlier discussions in the Trump administration about limiting access to advanced Chinese models and to a separate industry letter, led by Nvidia, supporting openness in AI.
