What the report says

Mityana District has launched an Shs85 million rehabilitation project for the Biyinzika–Mpenja road in Butayunja Sub-county, according to Nile Post. The route connects Mityana and Gomba districts and has reportedly deteriorated over time, making travel more difficult for residents, traders and farmers who depend on it to move produce and reach services.

The district says the works are intended to improve connectivity, reduce transport challenges and support local economic activity along the corridor. At the launch in Bekiina A Village, local leaders welcomed the project as a response to long-standing complaints about poor road conditions. They said repairs should ease movement and complement smaller maintenance efforts already being carried out at sub-county level.

Mityana District Engineer Jack Katende said the rehabilitation should deliver a durable road and urged residents to cooperate with the technical team so construction standards are followed. Francis Bisangwa, an assistant to the Resident District Commissioner, said the government had set aside the Shs85 million because of the road’s condition and stressed that the funds should be used for their intended purpose.

The report also notes that officials warned against corruption and misuse of public money during implementation. More broadly, rural road rehabilitation in Uganda often affects access to markets, schools and health facilities, so the project is being watched for its quality and whether it delivers the expected benefits to communities along the route.
