Nigeria: We Are Deploying Resources to Rescue 15 Abducted Schoolgirls - Niger Govt

What the report says
The Niger State government says it is mobilizing resources to help secure the release of 15 Islamiya pupils abducted by bandits at the weekend, according to a report carried by Leadership and distributed by AllAfrica. The pupils were taken from a school in Niger State, in north-central Nigeria, drawing concern from parents, residents and the school’s proprietor.
The school proprietor, Malam Aminu Abubakar Bako, said no government official had visited the community after the abduction and that security forces had not yet been seen there. He said the community had depended on local vigilantes and that the kidnappers had contacted them, demanding a ransom of 100 million naira. Bako also said the abductors called again on Monday and claimed the children were still safe, while warning that their safety could not be guaranteed if payment was delayed.
In response, Niger State Commissioner for Information and Orientation Obed Nuhu Nana said the administration was working with security agencies and other stakeholders to address the case. He said the government was deploying every available resource to rescue abducted people, tackle insecurity and prevent further attacks. Another senior official, Commissioner for Homeland Security Maurice Justin Magagi, said he was away on official assignment and would provide more details later.
The case highlights the continuing problem of school kidnappings and bandit violence in parts of northern Nigeria, where communities often press for faster security intervention and more visible government action.
