Troops under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD say they stopped an attempted movement by terrorists from Zamfara into Niger State, according to an operational report cited by Premium Times and distributed by AllAfrica. The incident was reported on Wednesday in Abuja and involved forces responding to credible intelligence that the group was traveling on about 200 motorcycles toward Inana Village in Rijau Local Government Area.

The report says soldiers from the 311 Army Reconnaissance Battalion and 18 Brigade engaged the suspected fighters at Majai and Tungan Bisallah villages. The attackers reportedly withdrew after the clash. Security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle and ammunition, including 395 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The troops also reportedly recovered one motorcycle and destroyed six others during the operation. One soldier was said to have been injured. In a separate movement linked to the same general security response, troops headed toward Genu Village after receiving intelligence but did not make contact with fleeing suspects.

Premium Times also reported other operations in Borno, Taraba and Abia involving arrests, weapons recovery and a raid on a transport company. More broadly, the report reflects ongoing military efforts against insurgent and criminal networks in northern Nigeria, where armed groups often use fast-moving motorcycle convoys and local informants to move across rural areas.
