The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced a special passport intervention for Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, according to Leadership via AllAfrica. The initiative is intended to clear pending passport applications and make it easier for Nigerians abroad to access passport services. It was described as being carried out on the direction of Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, with coordination between a Passport Intervention Team from NIS headquarters in Abuja and the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.

The service said Comptroller-General of Immigration Kemi Nandap instructed the team to begin the exercise on 10 August 2026. The effort will cover outstanding applications, new passport requests, and renewals for people whose passports have less than one year before expiry. The team is also expected to visit selected UK cities to handle enrolment and processing, although the NIS said the full schedule of locations, dates and venues would be announced separately.

Applicants were told to bring completed forms and proof of payment, but not to go to any site until official notice is issued. The NIS also said its digital passport options, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would remain available during the intervention, along with home delivery services. The move reflects broader efforts by Nigerian authorities to improve consular services for citizens in the diaspora, a recurring issue for many passport applicants overseas.
