Two prominent Katsina State politicians who had been part of an African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition effort have split over how to respond to disputes inside the party ahead of the 2027 elections. According to Premium Times, Mustapha Inuwa and Lawal Daura both complained that the ADC’s candidate-selection process was unfair and lacked credible internal democracy, but they chose different political destinations after the coalition unraveled.

Inuwa, a former secretary to the Katsina State government and once the first APC chairman in the state, said he and his supporters would return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Daura, a former director-general of the State Security Service, moved to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). The report says the two men had been part of a broader political grouping that sought to challenge Governor Dikko Radda and the APC, but disagreements over party structures and candidate selection fractured the alliance.

Premium Times reported that Inuwa argued the APC remained the most practical option despite hardship, insecurity and internal tensions, while Daura said the APM offered a better platform after concluding that both the ADC and APC were flawed. Inuwa also described plans to integrate his political structure into the APC in Katsina, including local-level stakeholder lists and coordination with party leaders.

The development matters because Katsina has been viewed as a key battleground in early opposition maneuvering in northern Nigeria. The split weakens one potential anti-APC coalition and highlights how internal party disputes continue to shape realignments before the 2027 polls.
