Nigeria: ICPC Tracks Projects Worth N530m in Jigawa

What the report says
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has begun tracking government projects in Jigawa State valued at more than N530 million, according to Daily Trust as republished by AllAfrica. The exercise was announced in Dutse, the state capital, by Farouq Umar, who led the ICPC tracking team and briefed journalists on the work.
Umar said the commission is reviewing both Constituency and Executive projects to check whether they are carried out according to approved plans and specifications. He said the effort is intended to help ensure public funds are used properly and that citizens receive quality infrastructure and services.
The projects under review include boreholes, solar-powered street lights and empowerment programmes. Umar linked the exercise to the ICPC’s broader mandate on transparency and accountability in public spending. He also asked community members, traditional and religious leaders, and civil society groups to support the monitoring effort by reporting substandard work or possible wrongdoing in their areas.
He further urged residents to protect completed public facilities from vandalism. The report places the exercise in the context of ongoing anti-corruption oversight of local projects, which can be significant in helping to identify gaps between approved spending and delivery on the ground.
