The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of Faith Alayande, a 23-year-old student who fell from the rooftop of its Lagos Campus hostel while staying there for an externship programme. In a statement, the school said she was ordinarily enrolled at its Enugu Campus and had been temporarily housed in Lagos for the duration of the placement.

According to the institution, the incident happened around 4 a.m. on Friday, 7 August 2026. The school said preliminary information indicates that she fell from the hostel rooftop and died from the injuries. It also said it is working with the relevant authorities and with her family to understand exactly what happened.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier said the hostel matron reported the case after the student was found unresponsive. Police officers visited the scene and moved the body to a morgue while an investigation continued. The report also said a hostel mate and a relative reportedly found a note believed to have been written by Alayande before she was discovered. The Law School expressed condolences to her family, colleagues and others affected, and asked the public and media to respect the family’s privacy during mourning.
