Nigeria: Gunmen Kill Army Colonel in Abuja, Shot Wife

AllAfrica, carrying a Vanguard report dated July 29, 2026, said gunmen killed Colonel Abdussalam Ude, a serving Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps officer, at his home in Kurudu, Abuja. According to sources cited by Vanguard, the attack happened on Monday evening after Ude returned from work and was confronted by unidentified armed men.

The report said the assailants opened fire after the officer resisted an apparent attempt to abduct him or members of his family. Ude’s wife was shot, while his driver and security guard were also reported to have suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital. Vanguard said military authorities had begun an investigation to identify those responsible. The article described Ude, who was from Enugu State, as an officer who had held intelligence and counter-terrorism roles in the Armed Forces and was expected to be considered for promotion next year.

In the same report, Vanguard said Plateau State police had arrested three suspects after the alleged mob killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, a 25-year-old Jos-based model also known as “Ibee.” Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said officers were alerted on July 26 after youths brought an unconscious man to Jos University Teaching Hospital in suspicious circumstances. Mbaya, from Rayfield, Jos, was confirmed dead on arrival, and his body was placed in the mortuary for autopsy.

Police named the arrested suspects as Rinji Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear and Nensemka Fwanji. Vanguard reported that Mbaya had been accused of stealing a phone before allegedly being beaten. Both cases add to public concern in Nigeria over violent crime, armed attacks and vigilante-style mob violence.
