Nigeria: Gunmen Abduct Teacher in Nasarawa, Demand N50m Ransom

What the report says
Gunmen abducted a primary school teacher, Mrs. Amina Hussaini, from her home in Kuru community in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria, and later demanded a N50 million ransom for her release, according to a report carried by Daily Trust and distributed by AllAfrica. The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday, while her husband was away in Lafia on an assignment.
A family member, Suwaiba Abdullahi, told the newspaper by phone that the kidnappers contacted the family after the abduction and repeated the ransom demand. She said relatives were struggling to gather the money and that a mediator’s attempt to negotiate a lower amount ended abruptly when the callers disconnected. The victim teaches at an LEA Primary School in Kuru.
The family said the case had been reported to police, and appeals were made to the public, security agencies and the Nasarawa State Government to help secure her safe return. The police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, said he had seen reports of the abduction on social media and would make enquiries before commenting further. The episode fits a broader pattern of kidnappings for ransom in parts of Nigeria, a persistent security concern that has affected ordinary residents as well as public servants and workers in rural communities.
