What the report says

Goldberg Lager has unveiled a monumental talking drum installation on top of Cocoa House in Ibadan, Nigeria, according to This Day, as distributed by AllAfrica. The unveiling took place on August 7 and was presented as part of Goldberg’s “Our Beat. Our Gold.” campaign, which highlights Nigerian culture, community and heritage.

Cocoa House is a 26-storey landmark completed in 1965 and widely associated with the region’s cocoa-driven economic history and indigenous enterprise. The new installation is intended to link that legacy with the talking drum, a familiar Yoruba cultural symbol traditionally used to convey messages, praise and proverbs through rhythm and pitch.

The article said the drum will play an hourly rendition of “Omolúàbí,” followed by the hour chime, as a nod to Yoruba values such as character, respect, community and pride in heritage. Abdulrahman Yinusa of Odu’a Investment Company described the addition as a new chapter for Cocoa House, while Sarah Agha of Nigerian Breweries said it was meant to create a lasting symbol of cultural pride.

The unveiling drew company ambassadors, media personalities, cultural figures and other guests. More broadly, the project reflects a trend in brand-led cultural installations that use prominent public landmarks to reinforce local identity and historical memory.
