What the report says

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has publicly backed former Governor Ayodele Fayose’s appointment as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency, a federal body responsible for expanding power access in rural areas. According to Premium Times, the reaction came after President Bola Tinubu named Fayose to the post in mid-July.

In a statement released Sunday by party spokesman Oluwafemi Philips, the Ekiti PDP said its State Working Committee unanimously agreed to “release” Fayose for what it described as a national assignment. The party said it believes his experience in public administration and leadership will help the agency pursue its mandate of improving electricity supply in underserved communities.

The endorsement is notable because Fayose remains a prominent PDP figure despite his appointment by an APC-led administration. He served as Ekiti governor under the PDP and has long been an influential voice in the party. The report also said the state chapter congratulated him on a planned monument in his honour at the Ekiti State Government House, framing the recognition as a sign of his contribution to the state.

The development adds to a broader pattern in which some opposition figures have taken roles in Tinubu’s government while retaining their party identities. Premium Times said the Ekiti PDP views Fayose’s new role as an opportunity to contribute to national development rather than partisan politics.
