Nigeria: Bauchi JSC Appoints 7 Upper Sharia Court Judges, Promotes 177 Officers

What the report says
The Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission has approved the appointment of seven officers as Upper Shari’a Court judges, according to a Leadership report distributed by AllAfrica. The decision was taken at a recent commission meeting in Bauchi that also covered judicial administration, staff development and discipline within the state judiciary.
The newly appointed judges are Rilwanu Abubakar Adam, Mukhtar Mohammed Bello, Inuwa Ibrahim Gamawa, Maigari Kabiru, Aliyu Hassan Jamda, Aminu Aliyu Ahmed and Lawal Bello. The commission also approved the re-posting of four deputy chief registrars to different courts for judicial and administrative duties.
In the same round of decisions, the JSC approved promotions for 177 staff members who passed a promotion examination held on 13 June 2026. The report says 196 eligible staff took part and 19 did not pass. The promotions apply to officers due for advancement between January and June 2026, subject to service conditions. The commission also took disciplinary action, including dismissal, demotion and suspension, against several staff and judicial officers for alleged abuse of office, fraud, misconduct and unprofessional conduct.
The actions show the commission’s role in both staffing the state’s Shari’a court system and enforcing internal discipline. Such measures can affect court operations, staff morale and public confidence in the judiciary.
