Nigeria: Army Foil Bandits' Ambush, Recover Ak-47 in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have said they foiled an ambush by suspected bandits in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition, according to a report published by Premium Times and distributed by AllAfrica. The army said the operation followed intelligence from a suspect previously arrested for alleged criminal activity, who reportedly led troops to Nwur village to recover a weapon said to have been hidden there.

During the follow-up mission, the soldiers were attacked by members of the suspected group, the report said. The army stated that one suspected bandit was killed and another was arrested in the exchange of fire. It also said troops later searched the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

The report places the incident amid continued security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where residents and security forces have recently faced attacks linked to gunmen and other armed groups. Premium Times also noted that troops were continuing search operations in the area to find additional members of the suspected bandit group.
