Nigeria: Alli Assures Workers of Prompt Payment of Entitlements As Oyo Doctors, Lautech ASUU Begin Strike

What the report says
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, has pledged that if elected in 2027 he would ensure prompt payment of salaries, allowances and other entitlements for state workers. His comments came as medical and dental officers in the state service and lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso began industrial action.
According to the AllAfrica-distributed report from This Day, the doctors’ strike began on Monday, while LAUTECH’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities started an indefinite strike on Thursday. The report says the work stoppages have disrupted services in public hospitals and affected patients, especially where essential care is already stretched by staffing and equipment shortages.
Alli, through a statement from his campaign organization, criticised Governor Seyi Makinde’s handling of the disputes and said the state should do more to address workers’ grievances. The statement said the medical officers were seeking payment of outstanding allowances and reinstatement of salaries for some staff transferred to the Ministry of Health, while the lecturers were pressing for implementation of the FGN-ASUU agreement, arrears and improved facilities.
The campaign also urged dialogue and contingency measures to protect patients needing urgent treatment. More broadly, the episode underscores long-running pressures in Oyo State’s public health and university systems, where labour disputes can quickly affect service delivery to residents.
