What the report says

Masindi District in western Uganda says it restored 4,250 hectares of land and secured 15 government land titles during the 2025/2026 financial year, according to the district’s State of the District Address. The update was presented at a council session at the district headquarters by District Chairperson Patrick Wobusobozi, who said the work was part of broader efforts to protect natural resources, reduce wetland degradation and limit encroachment on public land.

The report said the land restoration efforts are aimed at environmental conservation and long-term protection of community resources. It also framed the new land titles as a safeguard for government property, helping reduce disputes and strengthen control over public assets. The district’s progress was presented alongside updates on livelihood and poverty-reduction programmes supported by the central government.

According to the report, Masindi received funding under several initiatives, including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme, the Youth Livelihood Programme and the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment. These programmes are intended to support household incomes, small enterprises and vulnerable groups through activities such as farming, savings groups and business development. The figures underscore how district-level land management and social programmes are being linked to broader local development goals in Uganda.
