Nigeria: 2027 - Sokoto Govt Seals ADC Office As Violence Erupts At Zamfara APC Primary

What the report says
Political tensions intensified on Monday in northwestern Nigeria as two separate events unfolded in Sokoto and Zamfara states ahead of the 2027 election cycle. According to Leadership, the Sokoto State Government sealed the African Democratic Congress campaign office in Sokoto metropolis, shortly before the party’s planned presidential campaign flag-off on November 4. The closure was ordered by the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, and the government had not publicly explained the move at the time of reporting.
The ADC said the sealing was part of a wider pattern of pressure and intimidation against its members. Party officials alleged attacks on supporters, damage to campaign materials, and disruption of preparations for the event. The party has said it still intends to go ahead with the flag-off and has called on security agencies and the federal government to protect its candidates and supporters. The dispute follows earlier disagreement over the party’s choice of Sokoto as the venue for its campaign launch.
In neighbouring Zamfara State, violence broke out during the APC primary for the Zamfara North Senatorial District in Kaura Namoda. Reportedly, youths confronted the local government chairman after he urged delegates to support the incumbent senator, sparking a commotion that required police and other security personnel to intervene. Calm later returned, though a heavy security presence remained at the venue. The APC contest is for a Senate ticket covering Kaura Namoda, Birnin Magaji, Shinkafi and Zurmi local government areas.
