What the report says

Kenya’s National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse, or NACADA, says it arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized suspected cannabis during an intelligence-led raid in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County. The operation took place at about 3:01 a.m. on Tuesday at a homestead in Mbiuni, according to the report distributed by AllAfrica from Capital FM. Officers detained a 31-year-old man they suspect of trafficking narcotic substances.

During the search, the team said it recovered 85 brooms of dry plant material believed to be bhang, along with 700 small brownish rolls containing suspected narcotic substances. The haul was described as including 300 rolls and another 400 similar rolls, plus packaging materials such as nylon papers, Rizla papers and scissors. The suspect was taken to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Police Station for further processing, while the evidence was secured.

NACADA chief executive Anthony Omerikwa praised the officers and framed the case as an example of cooperation among security agencies. The authority said it remains focused on disrupting drug distribution networks and preventing illicit substances from reaching communities. The case is still under investigation, and further inquiries are continuing. More broadly, drug enforcement in Kenya often involves multi-agency operations targeting local trafficking and distribution rather than only large-scale shipments.
