What the report says

NCBA Bank Uganda has wrapped up another season of its Junior Golf Series, a grassroots programme it says is designed to identify and develop young golfing talent. According to Nile Post, the initiative is run under the U.S. Kids Golf Uganda Local Tour and has drawn more than 500 junior players since its launch in 2024, offering training, competition and sponsorship support.

The programme is open to children aged six to 18 and is meant to give them structured exposure to the sport while building discipline, confidence, resilience and sportsmanship. This season featured competitions at Entebbe Golf Club, Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Uganda Golf Club, broadening the players’ experience across different venues.

NCBA Bank Uganda chief executive Mark Muyobo said the bank wants to create a sustainable pathway for young golfers and help reduce barriers that can limit participation. The bank also backed 10 junior golfers this season through sponsorships intended to support children from less advantaged backgrounds. Among the beneficiaries named were players in the girls’ and boys’ age categories, including Aahil Bagalana in the Boys 8 division.

Les Brown, coach and director of the U.S. Kids Golf Local Tour Uganda, said participation continued to grow and that more than 80 juniors took part in the completed season. The bank said the effort fits into its wider community development strategy and could help identify talent while supporting youth development through sport.
