What the report says

Kampala Post reported that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged government support for the proposed Nonda Coffee Park, a USD 200 million agro-industrial coffee processing project planned for Nakaseke District. The project is expected to sit on 100 acres in Butalangu Town Council and is being promoted as a major value-addition facility for Ugandan coffee, with an annual processing target of 42,000 metric tons of raw beans.

According to the report, Museveni met a project delegation at State House Entebbe ahead of a planned groundbreaking in October. The team was led by Nonda Coffee Park Chief Executive Officer Tonny Miiro Kibuuka, who said the President’s support would include helping mobilize coffee-growing households to prepare for increased factory demand. Preliminary work is said to have started at the Nakaseke site, with full completion expected to take about 24 months.

The project is linked to the Great Uganda-Saudi Coffee Corridor under a private-sector Value-at-Source initiative. Kampala Post reported that Saudi private investors are expected to provide USD 160 million for construction, while the Government of Uganda is to contribute USD 44 million for supporting infrastructure. The developers also say the project has an export buyer in Saudi Arabia and could generate more than USD 800 million in annual revenue when fully operational.

If implemented as described, the park would support Uganda’s long-running policy goal of earning more from coffee through domestic processing rather than exporting mainly raw beans. The State House meeting was also attended by senior officials, including Attorney General Sam Mayanja, finance minister Henry Musasizi, science and technology minister Jonard Asiimwe, and Islamic Development Funds coordinator Hajji Habib Migadde.
