Justice Singiza asked resign over alleged Muhoozi endorsement

What the report says
The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has called on Dr Douglas Singiza to resign as chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission, saying his alleged association with efforts to promote Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions raises concerns about judicial neutrality. The Observer reports that ULS president Isaac K. Ssemakadde argued that Singiza’s appearance at the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) offices, and a circulating photo showing him with MP Michael Mawanda there, are incompatible with the political impartiality expected of a senior judicial officer.
ULS has also taken the matter to court. According to the report, it filed a constitutional petition in July 2025 challenging Singiza’s appointment and later sought an urgent order to stop the Judicial Service Commission from operating under his leadership while the case is heard. The society says Singiza should not hold the post because of concerns about integrity and because, in its view, he should have retired from the Judiciary after taking a full-time appointment elsewhere for more than three years. The article notes that these remain allegations and legal arguments, not findings by a court.
The dispute comes amid a wider PLU-backed campaign to rally support for Muhoozi ahead of the 2031 presidential election. The Observer also reports that ULS is asking state institutions and judicial bodies to clarify their positions on political activity by judicial officers and on PLU’s status as an organisation. At the time of publication, Singiza had not publicly responded, and no reply from PLU was available.
