Mukono Honors Gen. Katumba Wamala For 47 Years Of Service As Minister Migadde Urges Ugandans To Emulate His Legacy

Residents and local leaders in Mukono District held a thanksgiving and appreciation ceremony in Kikandwa, Kasawo Town Council, on Saturday to honor Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala for what the publisher described as 47 years of service in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and public service. The event brought together district officials, clergy, security officers, representatives of the Buganda Kingdom and community leaders.

According to Watchdog Uganda, the ceremony began with prayers led by church leaders and included remarks praising Katumba’s discipline, humility and long public career. Mukono District Chairperson Francis Lukooya Mukoome thanked President Yoweri Museveni for entrusting Katumba with senior responsibilities over the years. Bishop Emeritus Jackson Matovu urged support for grassroots development and also called attention to sanitation and public health concerns along highways.

Minister of State for Fisheries Robert Migadde Ndugwa told attendees that Ugandans should emulate Katumba’s work ethic and integrity, while encouraging parents and mentors to prepare younger people for leadership. Katumba, in turn, thanked the people of Mukono for honoring him while he is still alive and reflected on his military path, saying he began training under the UNLF in Masaka and later rose through the ranks with support from the president and divine providence.

The gathering ended with the presentation of a commemorative award recognizing his service. The event was framed as both a public tribute to a senior military figure and a call for national unity, mentorship and civic responsibility.
