Mufti Urges New Village Chairpersons to Lead With Integrity and Unity

Nile Post reports that the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has welcomed the election of new Local Council I chairpersons and urged them to begin their terms with integrity, fairness and a focus on unity. His message followed Tuesday’s nationwide village elections and was delivered on his behalf by the Second Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, at Bukasa-Kawuku Village in Entebbe.

According to the report, Sheikh Bukenya told journalists that the successful LC1 candidates should treat leadership as a public trust and serve residents without bias linked to ethnicity, tribe, gender, political affiliation or other differences. He said village leaders should prioritize peaceful coexistence, community welfare and reconciliation over personal or partisan interests.

Nile Post also reported that the LC1 elections were held after the government declared a public holiday, with voting largely peaceful in many parts of the country. However, the article noted that some areas experienced disputes over the electoral process that escalated into violence and left several people injured.
