MTN expands maternal, newborn health support in Luuka

What the report says
MTN Uganda has expanded maternal and newborn health support at Kiyunga Health Centre IV in Luuka District as part of its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, according to The Independent Uganda. The company said the work is meant to improve service delivery through a mix of infrastructure upgrades, digital tools and community outreach under the theme “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community.”
The facility received medical equipment and supplies, beds, smartphones, bicycles, ICT equipment, and improvements to solar power and water systems. MTN also said health workers were trained on the Electronic Medical Records Information System, while Village Health Teams and Community Health Workers received digital literacy training. A health camp at the centre offered screening, patient registration and health education, and Mobile Money staff introduced residents to financial services and insurance products.
Kiyunga Health Centre IV serves more than 42,000 people from Luuka and nearby districts, making it an important referral point in the region. The Luuka District Health Officer said the upgrades would help the facility better support mothers and newborns. MTN chief executive Sylvia Mulinge said the company wanted connectivity to translate into practical benefits for healthcare. The wider campaign also included tree planting and is part of MTN’s long-running health and community programmes.
The Independent reported that Kiyunga is one of four facilities receiving support in MTN’s 2026 campaign, with the combined value put at about Shs600 million. The company said it has invested more than Shs7.5 billion in maternal and newborn health programmes across Uganda over time.
