MP Zambaali Mourns Kapere, Urges Ugandans to Prioritise Health Check-ups

What the report says
Nansana Municipality MP Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa has paid tribute to comedian Yokaaba Mbuuse, widely known as Kapere, after the entertainer died on Sunday evening while attending a school function involving his children, according to Nile Post. The report says people close to him later attempted CPR, but he could not be revived. Zambaali described Kapere as a patriotic public figure who used comedy to speak for ordinary Ugandans and to raise concerns about people’s welfare.
In his remarks, the legislator said Kapere stood out for bringing laughter during difficult periods and for using his platform to highlight social issues. He also recalled the comedian’s concern for women struggling to care for children, vulnerable families and children facing problems at school. Nile Post reported that Zambaali viewed him as someone whose influence extended beyond entertainment into civic and social commentary.
The MP used the moment of mourning to call on Ugandans to take preventive healthcare more seriously, especially routine medical check-ups. He warned that many people may be living with hidden health conditions and only learn about them when they become severe. Zambaali also urged stronger public health awareness campaigns and regular examinations, including heart checks, saying early detection can save lives. The comments come as Uganda continues to face broader concerns about preventive healthcare and timely access to medical attention.
