What the report says

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo said on Wednesday that major logistics investments are underway across the country’s main transport corridors, with about $4.5 billion directed to the Nacala corridor in the northern province of Nampula. He made the remarks at the opening of the Transport and Logistics Investment Exhibition Forum, TRANS-LOG MOZ 2026, in Maputo, according to the report from Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique distributed by AllAfrica.

Chapo also said roughly $2 billion is being invested in the Maputo corridor and more than $1 billion in the Beira corridor in Sofala province. He described the projects as part of a broader effort to modernize transport and logistics infrastructure, improve competitiveness, and strengthen Mozambique’s role as a regional logistics hub for Southern Africa.

The reported plans include upgrades to the Port of Maputo, National Road 4, and border facilities linked to South Africa; development of the Dondo dry port and border connections around Machipanda for the Beira corridor; and rail and port improvements in Nacala. He said the Nacala program also includes modernization of the port, a special economic zone, and expanded industrial parks.

Chapo emphasized private-sector participation through public-private partnerships, concessions and build-operate-transfer models. He also called for institutional reforms, simpler procedures, transparency and digitalization, saying the corridors should support industrialization, job creation and deeper regional integration.
