Mozambique: Government Collects 183.3 Million Meticais in Revenue

Mozambique’s government said it collected 183.3 million meticais, or about 2.9 million US dollars at the current exchange rate, in the first half of 2026. The amount represented 45 percent of the revenue target in the country’s Economic and Social Plan, according to government spokesperson and Minister of State Administration Inocêncio Impissa after a Council of Ministers meeting in Maputo.

Impissa also reported that public spending over the same period reached 18.3 billion meticais, equal to 36.2 percent of the planned amount. He said inflation stood at 4.5 percent and exports came to 1.9 billion meticais. The figures offer a midyear snapshot of the government’s fiscal and economic performance as it works through its 2026 planning cycle.

At the same cabinet session, ministers approved several policy and administrative measures. These included the creation of the Southern Integrated Development Agency, or ADSUL, to support coordinated development in Inhambane, Gaza and Maputo provinces, with headquarters in Xai-Xai. The government also approved rules on vessel load lines, changes to the Maritime Transport Institute’s framework, a national water security strategy for 2026-2036, and an agricultural transformation program under PEDSA.

Together, the decisions point to a broader push on public finance management, infrastructure oversight and sector planning. The water, transport and agriculture measures are especially significant because they touch on basic services and long-term economic development across southern Mozambique and beyond.
