Mozambique: Anamola Appoints New Secretary-General

Mozambique’s Anamola, the political party led by former presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane, has named James Mlando Fausto Njiji as its new secretary-general, according to Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique, which was distributed by AllAfrica. The appointment was announced in Maputo on 14 September and is described as an interim move pending review by the party’s National Council at its next meeting, scheduled for September 2026.

Njiji replaces Messias Uareno. The party said the change is intended to preserve administrative continuity and keep its central bodies operating normally. It also linked the decision to resolutions from its National Convention and to the need for stronger organization amid current political challenges.

In the same set of personnel changes, Anamola appointed Alberto Manhique as national spokesperson, replacing Dinis Tivane. The report says Manhique was involved in the party’s creation and had previously served as interim secretary-general in 2025 while the group was still being structured.

The development is notable because Anamola is presenting itself as a major opposition force in Mozambique, at a time when Renamo, long the country’s principal opposition party, is dealing with internal disputes. The changes suggest the party is trying to consolidate its leadership and formal structures as it continues to build its political profile.
