Minister Asiimwe Calls on Learners to Develop Skills Beyond the Classroom

Nile Post reported that Jonard Asiimwe, the Minister in the Office of the President in charge of Science, Technology and Innovation, has urged pupils to take co-curricular activities seriously as part of their overall education. The remarks were made during games and sports activities at Flobbeto Primary School, where he emphasized that learning outside the classroom can help build creativity, discipline, teamwork, leadership and resilience.

According to the report, Asiimwe said the confidence and determination shown by learners in competitions demonstrated why schools should nurture talent alongside academics. Learners at the event took part in activities including athletics, football, netball, volleyball, chess, computer assembling, bicycle racing and jamming sessions. The minister described such participation as evidence of young people’s potential in creativity and innovation.

Nile Post further reported that Asiimwe linked the message to wider changes in technology, saying learners should continue developing human skills even as artificial intelligence reshapes the world. He encouraged them to pursue their talents with confidence, arguing that those abilities could contribute to their personal futures and to Uganda’s development.
